K9 Gunfighter

Operate effectively in lethal force environments with your K9.

The K9 Gunfighter Course is a modular training program designed to develop the handler’s ability to safely and effectively employ a firearm while operating with a K9 partner. Instruction is built around basic and advanced pistol and rifle marksmanship integrated with K9 handling and can be tailored to meet the operational needs and experience level of the agency.

FOUNDATIONAL SKILLS

The foundational skills module focuses on establishing safe and effective firearm handling with both pistol and rifle while working with a K9. Training emphasizes weapons safety, grip and stance, sight alignment, trigger control, and muzzle awareness, along with maintaining positive control of the K9 during static and basic movement drills.

OPERATIONAL SKILLS

The operational skills module focuses on employing pistol and rifle in real-world environments while managing a K9. Training emphasizes movement, use of cover, positional shooting, communication with other officers, and coordinated K9 deployment to ensure effective performance during high-risk encounters.

LOW-LIGHT OPERATIONS

The low-light operations module focuses on pistol and rifle employment in reduced visibility conditions. Training emphasizes handheld and weapon-mounted light techniques, target identification, muzzle discipline, and maintaining control of the K9 while operating effectively in low-light environments.

GUNFIRE NEUTRALIZATION

The gunfire neutralization module focuses on preparing the K9 and handler to operate effectively in the presence of gunfire. Training emphasizes conditioning the K9 to remain stable and mission-focused during live or simulated gunfire, maintaining control during engagements, and ensuring the handler can effectively deploy and manage the K9 while addressing active threats.
